Welcome to the The Investigator’s Role in Trauma Mitigation During Critical Incident Investigations training course. This course considers the investigator’s role during critical incident investigations and how the understanding of human performance limitations can mitigate trauma during the investigative process.
This course will also focus on areas including:
- Understanding the unique role investigators play during critical incident investigations
- Applying techniques to reduce psychological impact on involved individuals
- Recognizing limitations under stress to inform fair and effective investigative practices

Instructor: Nicole Florisi
Nicole Florisi is currently a course instructor for Force Science. Previously, she worked as a Law Enforcement Subject Matter Expert for VirTra with a focus on communication, mental health, and resilience. She has worn many hats in her 20+ year career, from officer and sergeant to acting chief. She has worked patrol, investigations, and internal affairs. Her passion for communication led her to work as one of the lead SWAT negotiators for 17 years. Before her roles with Force Science and VirTra, Nicole was the executive director for a non-profit that provides services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. She previously worked as a therapist for an integrated community healthcare agency focusing on crisis and trauma. She is still a sworn officer in AZ. Nicole has two post-master’s degrees, one in human factors psychology and one in trauma counseling, an M.S. in Professional Counseling, and a B.S. in Public Safety Administration and Emergency Management. She is currently working on her doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
