Welcome to the Bigotry and Bias Crimes, Procedural Justice training course. This course will review and break down the classifications, statistics, and data of hate crime offenses against persons, property, and society, and discusses how law enforcement can help their communities through its role in addressing the rise in hate crimes.

This course will also focus on areas including:  

  • Defining bigotry and bias crimes and the complexities of interacting with both the assailants and victims.
  • Articulate law enforcement’s role in addressing bigotry and bias.
  • Examine key bigotry and bias crimes and discuss how they have shaped the laws surrounding these crimes.
  • Discuss ways to adopt a guardian concept of policing instead of a warrior.
  • Recognize ways to encourage positive interactions with community members.
  • Identify opportunities for discussion during police encounters.
  • Identify ways to develop partnerships to improve and strengthen relationships within the community.
