Science Based Interviewing for Use of Force Investigations (26-03-14-A1)

Conducting effective interviews during use of force investigations requires an understanding of both investigative principles and human performance science. This course examines science-based interviewing techniques that improve the accuracy, reliability, and completeness of officer and witness statements. Participants will explore how memory, perception, stress, and cognitive processing affect recall, and how investigators can use evidence-based methods to obtain accurate and defensible information. The course emphasizes the importance of structured, objective interviewing practices that support thorough investigations and legally sound conclusions.
