Hindsight Bias in Use of Force Investigations (26-03-16-A1)

Use of force investigations require objective analysis based on the facts and circumstances known to the officer at the time of the event. This course examines hindsight bias and how it can unintentionally influence investigators, reviewers, and others when evaluating officer decision-making. Participants will explore how knowledge gained after an incident can distort perceptions of reasonableness and fairness. The course emphasizes the importance of objective, fact-based analysis and the application of constitutional standards to ensure accurate, fair, and legally defensible investigative outcomes.
