Welcome to the Seizure of Electronics training course. This course will address the exceptions, principles, procedural requirements, constitutional law, statutory law, and case law relating to search & seizure of electronic devices. A review of the Sharp case will identify necessary policy standards for how a supervisor should handle the situation.

This course will also focus on areas including:

  • Understanding the legal First Amendment and Fourth Amendment standards related to electronics.
  • Clarifying a recommended process to take custody of a citizen’s electronic device that contains evidence of a crime.
  • Ensuring knowledge that media cannot be deleted on an electronic device.
