Welcome to the Introduction to Ethics for Law Enforcement training course. This course will focus on three basic theories that help define the role of ethics in law enforcement. It will identify the officers’ role in relation to ethics within an organization. It is important for officers to understand the necessity for high standards of ethical andmoral behavior on the part of the law enforcement officer on and off duty. This course will address topics such as code of conduct, legal standards and accountability will be discussed. In addition, the module will focus on lying as a public policy and Brady/Giglio requirements for police departments. 

This course will also focus on areas including: 

  • Define the terms “ethics” and “professionalism.” 
  • Identify how immoral conduct by an officer adversely affects the officer in the performance of his official duties. 
  • Identify law enforcement officer rights and their relevance to appropriate professional behavior.
